Enjoying your garden after dark

Just because the sun goes down, doesn’t mean you have to go inside! In fact, your garden can be a perfect perch from which to enjoy the late evening hours. The following blog post will tell you how you can enjoy your garden, even after dark.

Light some citronella candles

As lovely as the outdoors may be, bugs such as mosquitos and midges could cause irritating disruptions to your garden gatherings. To keep these pests at bay, place and light some citronella candles around your garden. Citronella will help repel these insects and keep you and your guests from itching and swatting.

Ensure your garden furniture and features are visible

If your garden furniture and other features are painted a lighter colour, it will be easier to see in the dark. Dark colours absorb the light around them and will blend in with the night atmosphere, whereas lighter colours will allow for more visibility.

Invest in a heat source

When the sun goes down, the atmosphere gets much cooler. No one can be comfortable if they’re too cold, so providing a heat source in your garden is a wise idea. In addition to having blankets at the ready, we suggest lighting a fire or having an outdoor heater to keep garden dwellers nice and toasty, whatever the time of day. It’s vital that you operate these features safely and as instructed in order to avoid any potential hazards.

Remove clutter from your garden

When night comes, it’ll be harder to see your garden and its surrounds. In order to make the space as safe as possible, it’s a wise idea to clear the area of clutter so that you don’t trip over something and wind up injuring yourself.  Additionally, it’s a good idea to create a clear-cut path that you can use confidently, and that will safely get you from A to B.

Make sure there is enough light

While there obviously won’t be as much visibility in your garden when it’s dark out, you will still need some light to be able to see what you’re doing. A pitch black garden doesn’t sound appealing, and it won’t be safe for anyone. Battery operated lights or lanterns are always good options for outdoor night-time lounging. If you want some more ambiance, opt for outdoor string lights and/or candles. As always, ensure open flames are watched closely and handled with care.

Your garden is a special place, and can continue to be an oasis even when the sun goes down. The above suggestions will help your garden remain safe and comfortable, whatever the time of day! For more expert advice, call into your local Sandtex stockist. You can also visit us on the web!
