Exterior trends we love for 2022

It’s the start of a new year and that means there are new trends to try when it comes to your home and exteriors! 2022 means a fresh start, and provides the perfect opportunity to experiment, push your comfort zone, and try something different. What types of exciting new things does this year have in store?  Read on to find out!

Warm whites instead of bright whites: While we don’t think bright whites can ever go out of fashion when it comes to house colours (they’re timeless!), we are seeing more and more people opt for a bit more subdued and natural toned whites and creams. These whites will blend more seamlessly into the environment and keep your home from looking to stark in contrast when compared to its surrounds. Our shades Ivory Stone and Sandstone are perfect for this.

Colour blocking: Want to experiment with colour but scared to take too big of a plunge? Colour blocking allows you to incorporate varying shades into your exteriors without the threat of overpowering them. This works especially well with dark colours like charcoal and black— you can incorporate these into your exteriors via colour blocking without painting your entire house dark. Instead, take a section of your house (your extension, your shed, your entryway, your garden wall) and paint it in a darker shade  for an interesting and on-trend feature. Embrace natural textures: We are seeing more and more homes embrace natural textures such as wood and stone. This adds interest to the look of your exteriors and will keep it from appearing one-dimensional. Whether you want to make a bigger commitment (such as wooden decking, a stone wall or a stone patio) or a smaller commitment (such as wooden trim, a wooden shed, wooden furniture, or a stone garden feature) there are plenty of ways to embrace some of Mother Nature’s finest materials.

Blues and greens inspired by nature: Again, we are seeing people choose nature-inspired shades for their exteriors, such as ocean blues and leafy greens. Blue and Green are two of our favourite home colours, and within those families there are so many gorgeous shades to choose from depending on your particular style. Opt for blue and green shades inspired by nature such as Morning Sky and Olive. With our Colourmix service, you can also choose from up to 30,000 shades to have mixed to our quality formulations, so the possibilities are endless!

Use Bronze and copper elements: For a stylish look, incorporate bronze and copper elements into your exteriors. This is a trend that, in our opinion, is both fashion forward and stylish, so whatever you invest in is sure to be money well spent. Immediately upgrade the look of your entryway with a gold or copper knocker, door knob or mail slot. You can also get this trend by displaying accessories such as gold or copper lanterns, lights and planters.
